5 Beautiful & Surprising Places to Enjoy Fall Near Denton

Window Treatments

This month, I want to go beyond window treatments and right into the great outdoors. Now that the Texas summer’s behind us and we can leave our doorsteps without breaking a sweat, there’s nothing better than enjoying nature to its fullest. And you can do so with your home in mind!

A few “homey” reasons to grab your spouse, family or friends and venture out into nature:

  • You can find the perfect pumpkin, some dried corn, or other colorful gourds to decorate your front doorstep.
  • You’ll find seasonal decor and inspiration at local art fairs and fall events.
  • You can take a moment to step away from technology and your familiar surroundings. (You’ll probably love your home even more after some time away!)

To help you accomplish all of these and more, here are my top 5 picks for getting your fall fix near Denton.

Don’t skip this one! If you’re living in the Denton Area, you’ve probably heard of the Dallas Arboretum — maybe you’ve even visited before — but that’s no reason to write it off this year.

The Dallas Arboretum’s Autumn Festival is truly a sight to behold!

Did you know it was named one of “America’s Best Pumpkin Festivals” by Fodor’s Travel? And “One of the World’s 15 Most Breathtaking Gardens” by Architectural Digest? I didn’t until now! But I’m certainly not surprised.

Every year, folks of all ages pour in to enjoy the flower gardens, the massive pumpkin VILLAGE (not just a patch!), live music, rivalry football games, and more with our DFW community.

If you’re looking for a stroll that will bring some peace and serenity to your day, this is the place. The Fort Worth Botanic Gardens have thousands of roses, perennials, orchids, herbs, begonias, and more.

Then, step into their Japanese Garden to find soothing waterfalls, gracefully swimming Koi, and the gorgeous Japanese maples you can see in the photo above. I confess, I am just a sucker for these trees. Look how brilliantly red and beautiful they are!

I’ve been living in the Denton Area for many years, but when my son came home one day and told me he’d enjoyed a nice picnic at the Israel Prayer Garden, I had never heard of it!

Turns out, it’s a peaceful and beautiful little gem that’s free for the general public to enjoy. If you’re in Denton, Corinth, or Argyle, it’s just a quick drive away and sure to be more intimate (and less crowded) than Dallas or Fort Worth spots.

The Chandor Gardens have some really breathtaking views, water fountains, streams and, of course, gardens! They also host plenty of fall events that are geared toward all ages.

Admittedly, the Chandor Gardens are at the very western edge of Fort Worth, but they’re well worth the drive from Denton. You can also stop at the Vintage Grill & Car Museum, which is just a few blocks away.

The old-timey cars are pretty darn cool — no matter your age!

With 2,900 acres of forest, prairie, and aquatic habitats, the Clear Creek Natural Heritage Center is more than just a “center.” You can hike up to 10 miles of family-friendly trails, attend free workshops (like organic gardening), and even bring your dogs!
