If you’re thinking about layered window treatments, you’re likely after a multi-dimensional look that offers greater functionality. There are many benefits of layering window treatments. Learning how to layer window treatments to achieve a look you love with the functionality you need may seem complicated. With a bit of knowledge, they are an elegant, essential way to customize any home. That’s why we’ve gathered tips and guidance for layering along with inspiring ideas to guide you toward the perfect combination.
Benefit #1: Plenty of Privacy
In Denton and Dallas/Fort Worth homes, privacy is often hard to come by. Close living quarters and nearby buildings can make it difficult to feel secluded. Layered window treatments provide a functional solution by melding design and utility to add privacy/security to a home. By combining shades, sheers, blinds, and drapes, Denton/Dallas/Fort Worth residents can improve privacy, eliminate glare, and improve energy use. Roller shades and drapery panels are some of my favorite treatments to layer for the ultimate privacy in a home.
Benefit #2: Increased Insulation
The capacity of layered window treatments to minimize heat loss through the windows is not to be underestimated. Adding multiple layers adds insulation that can cut down on heating and cooling costs. By enhancing insulation, these fabrics can slash heat loss by 40% or more, correlating to approximately 10% in heating energy savings. Honeycomb shades are very energy efficient and look beautiful paired with a beautiful fabric cornice for color and pattern.
Benefit #3: Amplified Aesthetics
There are many beautiful options available that, when layered, add a unique, sophisticated finish to any home. Some of my favorite layered treatments are drapery over blackout roller shades, Roman Shades over blinds, woven wood shades over solar shades, layered drapery, three-layer design with solar shades, Roman Shades, and drapery panels, When layering soft window treatments and curtains, try choosing a print for one and a solid in a coordinating color for the other. If you’re feeling extra adventurous you can mix 2 prints, just be sure that one is large scale and the other is more delicate. For example, try a bold floral with a delicate pinstripe.
Benefit #4: Full Flexibility
Layered window treatments make it much easier to adjust your treatments based on the sunlight at any given time of day and still maintain your color and texture you want in your decor. Shades are the easiest type of window treatment to raise and lower so I highly recommend any type of shade for layered window treatments. When you have layered treatments you can raise your shade to get your view but your drapery panels are still there give you all of the beautiful color, texture and pattern you need to complete your decor.
